Oliver Co. certifies as a B Corporation

We are incredibly proud to announce today our certification as a B Corporation (or B Corp), joining a growing group of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit. We have been certified by B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, as having met rigorous social and environmental standards which represent our commitment to goals outside of shareholder profit.

Our B Corp journey began last January, as we hired our first freelancer, Catarina, to help us complete our B Impact Assessment. The process took 6 months and looked at every aspect of the business, covering five key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers.

The certification process was incredibly rigorous, requiring us to meet a benchmark score of over 80 while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. To complete the certification, we also legally embedded our commitment to purpose beyond profit in our company articles.

Chris Turner, Executive Director of B Lab UK, says

“We are delighted to welcome Oliver Co. to the B Corp community. This is a movement of companies who are committed to changing how business operates and believe business really can be a force for good. We know that Oliver Co. are going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward”.

“We are pleased to have B Corps of all shapes and sizes as part of our community – from startups to multinationals and across many different industries. Business is a powerful force and B Corps demonstrate that you can do good in any sector. Welcoming Oliver Co. is an exciting moment because they have an opportunity to lead the way within the accessories industry. We and the rest of the B Corp community are really pleased to support Oliver Co. in paving the way for a new way of doing things”.

We are now part of a community of 4,600 businesses globally who have certified as B Corps. The B Corp community in the UK, representing a broad cross section of industries and sizes, comprises over 600 companies and include well-known brands such as The Guardian, innocent, Patagonia, The Body Shop and organic food pioneers Abel & Cole.

Matt Oliver, founder of Oliver Co. says,

"Since the very beginning, we have had our sights set on becoming a B Corp. The Impact Assessment is globally recognised as a blueprint for socially and environmentally responsible business and has acted as a trusted measure by some of the most inspiring brands in the world.

We are incredibly proud to now join this community of B Corporations.  The process has no doubt taught us so much and we now have a clear focus on how to continue growing the business in the right way. I think even I was surprised about the level of detail the assessment goes to, but it has been so important in identifying what we do well and what areas we need to improve. We look forward to continue working with B Lab and play a part in shaping the global economy towards benefitting all people, communities and the planet.”
