The main fabric of the wallet is made from apple leather. Apple leather is created using 50% polyurethane and 50% apple waste from the fruit juice and compote industry. By using renewable resources, it requires a lot less water and generates considerably less CO2 compared to other leathers and faux leathers.
The apple by-product comes from Bolzano in Italy, one of the world’s largest apple-producing regions. The apple leather reuses an otherwise wasted natural material and further promotes local agriculture.
Our lining for the compact wallet is made using a combination of Cupro satin and 100% recycled plastic bottle lining.
Cupro is a “regenerated cellulose” fabric made from cotton waste. It is made using the silky cotton fibres, known as cotton linter, that stick out of the cotton seed and that are too small to spin. The linter is dissolved into a cuprammonium solution, which is a mixture of copper and ammonium, before being spun into fibre. Like Tencel and Modal, Cupro is a plant-based material that is chemically processed to produce the fabric.
The 3 card slots on the inside of the wallet are lined with REPREVE recycled polyester lining. Made from 100% recycled plastic bottles, our Repreve fabric not only gives new life to materials, but compared to using a non-recycled fibre, emits fewer greenhouse gases as well as conserving water and energy in the process.
