Oliver Co x The Felix Project 2023
(RESPONSIBLE) BLACK FRIDAY
Oliver Co x The Felix Project 2023
Black Friday can be a time of mindless mass consumption and that doesn't sit well with us at Oliver Co. We have it enshrined in our mission statement to use our business for good and every November we proudly practice (Responsible) Black Friday. It’s the perfect time to create real impact, while finding something useful for yourself or as a gift with the holiday season round the corner. This year we’re collaborating with The Felix Project, a charity using surplus food to feed hungry Londonders and very close to our hearts.
We’ve worked with The Felix Project for a few years now and through volunteering and previous giving campaigns have found them to be an incredible organisation delivering tangible impact to those most at risk. Founded in 2016 by Jane and Justin Byam Shaw after their son, Felix died suddenly aged 14 from meningococcal septicaemia in 2014, The Felix Project was set up to commemorate Felix’s kindness and compassion. To say they have gone from strength to strength is an understatement, in 2022 they delivered 29 million meals to children, families, the homeless, the elderly, refugees and many more.
In 2023 we are living through a hunger crisis. The poverty rate in London has almost doubled from 16% pre-pandemic to 27%, which makes London the region with the highest poverty rate in the UK. Currently 1 in 4 working Londoners struggle to afford to feed their family.
Food waste is also a growing issue, with a third of the food we use thrown away. The Felix Project exists to bridge the gap between surplus food and people that need it. They gather fresh, nutritious and high quality food from 539 suppliers, including supermarkets, wholesalers, farms, restaurants and delis, then cook and redistribute it to front-line charities, primary schools and holiday programmes in London. This way, food that would have gone to waste is reaching vulnerable people, homeless, people with poor mental health or those who simply cannot afford to buy regular, healthy food.
The Felix Project is the largest food redistribution charity in the UK in terms of the number of organisations they supply. They delivered 29 million meals this year to vulnerable people, homeless, people with poor mental health or those who simply cannot afford to buy regular, healthy food. However, they still need our help. Despite distributing meals to over 1,000 charities across London they still have 600+ organisations on their waiting list and it has been tough to turn away frontline charities doing urgent work.
From Thursday 23rd to Monday 27th November at midnight, we will donate 10% from every order to The Felix Project and to say thank you, you will receive 10% off your order. Simply use the code ‘GOOD-FOOD-FOR-GOOD-CAUSES’ at checkout.
Together we can make meaningful change. Help The Felix Project realise their vision of a London where no-one goes hungry and good food is never wasted.
As The Felix Project says- no one should have to miss a meal.
