A global movement
1% for the Planet
When Oliver Co. first began we set ourselves a mission. In short, to become the most sustainable accessories brand on the planet. Just a little ambitious you might say!
But how was this going to look? What do we need to do along the way to make this a reality?
Ultimately it goes much further than just the ingredients in a product and effects every decision in the company. It is to balance profit and purpose and to work towards having a positive impact on the planet.
As a company producing products, made from resources taken from the earth, we’re aware of the limits inherent to the mission. In order to try and have a positive impact, it is important to also give back.
That’s why we are proud to say we have joined 1% for the planet, a global organisation that helps us to give back 1% of our annual sales - every year, forever.
What is 1% for the Planet?
Started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, 1% for the Planet have so far helped businesses give more than $225 million to environmental nonprofits. Today, they have a network of more than 2,000 business members, and thousands of nonprofit partners in more than 60 countries.
They aim to drive true on-the-ground change within their six core issue areas: climate, food, land, pollution, water and wildlife.
The organisation will help us by advising on giving strategies, certifying donations and amplifying the work that we do. They will also help us in organising volunteer work, that we are very excited to be a part of.
How can I become a part of it?
1% for the Planet have recently offered people the opportunity to become a part of the organisation as an individual member. Anyone can join and donate 1% of their salary to their approved nonprofits via monetary donations and/or volunteer support.
It's a great opportunity to join an organisation creating real positive change for our planet. You will be a part of a global network of businesses and individuals that is growing each day.
