A New Beginning

Operated in an almost completely linear way, large amounts of non-renewable resources are continually extracted to produce the products we love.

Today we are starting to see a transition. Innovation in high performance sustainable fabrics has meant that we can produce products that begin to move away from non-renewable resources.

For the past two years we have been looking for right materials on the market that fitted our aims. We joined the ‘Sustainable Angle’, a non-profit organisation who help small businesses connect with the best fabric suppliers in the industry.

Apple leather

Our first material we use is called Apple leather. It is made from 50% apple waste mixed with 50% PU, coated onto a cotton and polyester canvas. The result is a durable but soft fabric that is perfect for hardwearing small accessories.

The apple by-product comes from Bolzano in northern Italy, one of the world’s largest apple-producing regions. Due to the shear scale, it is faced with a significant amount of waste. The leather up-cycles the unused apple and creates this new material that has a considerably reduced CO2 impact compared to others faux leathers on the market.

Wood Leather

Our wood leather is an innovative vegan material with incredible softness, and unique luxury aesthetic. It is made from thin sheets of real wood that are cut with micro laser etchings, which allow the product to be sewn transformed and assembled like leather.

The characteristic grain makes each product unique and due its nature, is a robust long lasting fabric. All the wood that is processed comes from FSC® approved forests that guarantees the traceability and origin of the wood. It reduces the kg CO2 emitted into the atmosphere by up to 60% compared to a square metre of leather.

Our Linings

Our linings are made from the highest quality, GOTs certified fair trade cottons, Tencel and recycled polyester.

The aim of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is to define requirements to ensure organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labelling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer.

We buy our apple leather and wood leather directly from the factory, allowing for traceability. Our linings are from a trusted ecological fabric supplier who specialises in ethical fabrics.

Oliver Co. is a vegan brand due to our environmental concerns. As it is widely documented, raising animals for food and leather requires a huge amount of feed, pastureland, water and fossil fuels.
