The main fabric of the wallet is made from apple leather. It is created using 50% polyurethane and 50% apple waste from the fruit juice and compote industry. By using renewable resources, it requires a lot less water and generates considerably less CO2 compared to other leathers and faux leathers.
The apple by-product comes from Bolzano in Italy, one of the world’s largest apple-producing regions. Due to the shear scale, it is faced with a significant amount of waste. The apple leather reuses an otherwise wasted natural material and further promotes local agriculture.
The lining is made from GOTs certified organic cotton satin. The aim of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is to define requirements to ensure organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labelling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer.
